Delft police arrest alcohol-impaired driver after A13 van crash
The driver and passenger were found under the influence after the bus overturned.
A driver was arrested in Delft after a one-vehicle crash on the A13 in the direction of Rotterdam in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The van left the road just before 04:45, smashed into the guardrail, and overturned onto the highway. Both the driver and the passenger managed to get out of the badly damaged vehicle.
Police found both men were heavily under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested, and was taken for further medical treatment, with a police officer riding along to the hospital.
The passenger did not need to go to hospital. Police dropped him off at the next exit, where he had to arrange his own taxi.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and two lanes were closed. A recovery company righted the overturned van with a recovery vehicle and removed it from the road. Glass and other debris were scattered across the roadway, and a ZOAB cleaner was used to clean the surface.
After the wreckage was removed, part of the highway reopened. The right lane stayed closed longer while cleaning was completed, and then the final lane was released.
The driver remains under police custody following the alcohol-related arrest, as the investigation into the crash continues.
